Flashing Tape Technical Data Sheet
TapeManBlue Flashing Tape is 4 inches wide by 90 feet long and comes in a case of 24 rolls. The flashing tape is 10 mil thick and the backing is made of black, durable, polypropylene to give you a reliable, weatherproof seal. The acrylic self-adhesive, self-wound flashing tape roll does not have a release liner, making it quicker to unroll and apply and eliminates additional jobsite waste.
TapeManBlue Flashing Tape can be applied in the temperature range of 20 to 180°F and will maintain performance in temperatures from -30 to 200°F after installation. The flashing tape is UV resistant for up to 12 months, giving you time to complete your project without sacrificing performance.
TapeManBlue Flashing Tape is ideal for general contractors, window and door installers, builders, remodelers, building envelope professionals, and DIY homeowners. This flashing tape works most effectively on a variety of clean, dry surfaces including wood, metal, concrete, glass, and other building surfaces. It forms durable, reliable, weatherproof seals around doors, windows, and other building openings. Even if punctured, the flashing tape’s self-healing acrylic adhesive will seal tightly around nails, screws, and fasteners to help keep a continuous water barrier.
What is flashing tape used for?
Flashing tape is used to create waterproof, weather-resistant seals around building openings and transitions to help prevent water and air infiltration. Any building envelope transitions where materials meet to create walls, windows, doors or roofing components, or for structural insulated sheathing seams, flashing tape can be used in those areas. Common flashing tape applications include window flashing, door flashing, edges, and corners to protect those openings from moisture entering. Flashing tape can be used around fasteners, nails, screws and other areas needing a weatherproof seal. TapeManBlue Flashing Tape is great for both residential construction projects and commercial construction projects.
What is the difference between flashing tape and liquid flashing?
Knowing the difference between flashing tape and liquid flashing will help when choosing what is the best for your project. Flashing tape is quicker and provides immediate waterproof protection while liquid flashing requires curing time. Flashing tape is easier and cleaner to install compared to liquid flashing. Flashing tape has more consistent results with thickness whereas liquid flashing is dependent on how it is applied. If you are looking to seal sheathing seams, flashing windows, doors, edges or other straight openings or transitions, then flashing tape is best to use. For other difficult transitions or complex shapes or openings, liquid flashing might be better to use. Many times, flashing tape and liquid flashing are used together.
How do I install flashing tape properly?
1. For best results of your flashing tape creating a reliable hold, apply the flashing tape to a clean, dry surface. Be sure there is no moisture that may interfere with the flashing tape adhesion.
2. Measure the space that the flashing tape will cover, adding at least 2 extra inches to overlap adjacent pieces to create a continuous water barrier.
3. Unroll flashing tape from roll and cut desired length.
4. Apply the flashing tape with firm pressure. To ensure the tape is applied firmly and to remove possible air bubbles, a flashing tape roller is recommended for the best seal. Check that all seams, transitions, and corners are fully covered by flashing tape.
5. TapeManBlue Flashing Tape should only be applied within the recommended temperature range of 20 - 180 degrees F.
There may be situations where flashing tape is not the best solution for your project and understanding this ahead of time can save time and money. Flashing tape is ideal for sealing straight seams, window and door openings, sheathing joints and other building envelope transitions where the surface is clean and dry. Flashing tape is not ideal to use on surfaces that are wet or dirty, areas with large gaps, irregular or complex openings, or the temperature is outside of the recommended application range.

FAQ
TapeManBlue Flashing Tape creates waterproof, weather-resistant seals anywhere two materials meet and water or air could infiltrate. The most common applications are window flashing, door flashing, sheathing seam sealing, and protection around fasteners like nails and screws. TapeManBlue Flashing Tape works on both residential and commercial construction projects. Flashing tape is used by general contractors, window and door installers, builders, remodelers, building envelope professionals, and DIY homeowners.
TapeManBlue Flashing Tape is UV resistant up to 12 months after installation. That gives contractors and builders a full year to complete a project without the flashing tape degrading before the cladding or siding goes on. It is not intended as a permanent exposed surface, and it should be covered by cladding or another finish material within that 12-month window.
No special tools are required, but a flashing tape roller is recommended for best results. TapeManBlue Flashing Tape is self-wound with no release liner, which means there's no liner to peel and discard. You can unroll the flashing tape and apply it directly to the surface. This speeds up installation and eliminates jobsite waste. Once applied, pressing firmly with a roller removes air bubbles and ensures full contact adhesion, especially at seams, corners, and transitions.
TapeManBlue Flashing Tape adheres to a variety of clean, dry building surfaces including wood, metal, concrete, glass, and other standard building substrates. Surface prep is the key variable: the tape should be applied to surfaces that are clean and dry, free of dust, dirt, or moisture. It is not recommended for wet, oily, or heavily contaminated surfaces, as adhesion will be compromised.
TapeManBlue Flashing Tape can be applied in temperatures as low as 20°F. Below that threshold, the acrylic adhesive may not bond reliably, and application is not recommended. Once installed, TapeManBlue Flashing Tape maintains performance in temperatures as low as -30°F.
TapeManBlue Flashing Tape has an application range of 20°F to 180°F and that's the window in which it should be installed for proper adhesion. After installation, it maintains performance from -30°F to 200°F. That post-installation range covers both cold-climate conditions and high-heat environments like south-facing walls or areas near HVAC penetrations.
TapeManBlue Flashing Tape is 10 mil thick. The backing is black polypropylene, which provides durability and a weatherproof seal. Each roll is 4 inches wide by 90 feet long, and each case contains 12 rolls.
TapeManBlue Flashing Tape is manufactured in the USA.
Yes, TapeManBlue Flashing Tape is commonly used alongside sealants and liquid flashing on the same project. Flashing tape handles straight seams, window and door openings, sheathing joints, and transitions where surfaces are flat and accessible. Liquid flashing or sealant is better suited for complex shapes, irregular openings, or areas where tape can't lay flat.
Yes, window and door flashing is one of the primary applications for TapeManBlue Flashing Tape. It seals around window and door rough openings to create a continuous water barrier that prevents moisture infiltration into the wall assembly. TapeManBlue Flashing Tape's self-healing acrylic adhesive also seals tightly around nails, screws, and fasteners driven through the tape, so if a fastener penetrates the tape during frame installation, the adhesive closes around it rather than leaving an entry point for water.
No, there is no curing time required when using TapeManBlue Flashing Tape. It provides immediate waterproof protection upon application. This is one of the key practical differences between flashing tape and liquid flashing. Liquid flashing must cure before it becomes fully waterproof, which adds wait time to the schedule. TapeManBlue Flashing Tape bonds on contact and the water barrier is active as soon as the tape is pressed firmly to the surface.
